Towner Art Gallery presents “WITH ART IN MIND” an exhibition by Arts in Mind (A.I.M) 12th February – 6th March 2016
Since 2009, Towner Art Gallery have been supporting the creative practice of a group within the community that have been living with mental health conditions. Arts in Mind, are now an established group of artists and makers meeting regularly at Towner Art Gallery.
Weekly studio sessions held at Towner provide a non-judgemental environment for members to explore new art skills and develop confidence in their art practice. Arts in Mind is a community of interest; a space for experiencing how art can be calming and absorbing, exhilarating and boundary defying, giving respite to the mind and enabling new channels for communication.
This exhibition brings together a range of art practices spanning photography, sculpture, painting, collage, printing and drawing.
The show is curated by Dawn Monk, a former member of Arts in Mind and currently studying BA (Hons) Fine Art and Contemporary Practice at Brighton University, Hastings campus. Dawn is thrilled to be bringing together a diverse range of work produced by the group: “Each work represents the artist, their unique perspective and individual contribution to Eastbourne’s creative community.”
Towner are proud to support Arts in Mind and place learning and a commitment to access at the very heart of everything we do, building on the original vision of the gallery’s philanthropic founder to create ‘an art gallery for the people’. Arts in Mind members have exhibited their work regionally, embarked on studying art at degree level and joined the Towner team of volunteers. Arts in Mind continues to evolve as a supportive space for its members to freely explore their creative practice.
Exhibition supported by Towner Art Gallery, The Chalk Cliff Trust and Sussex Oakleaf
