Artists in Residence
Art galleries would be empty without artists. Towner has been supporting local artists for nearly 100 years. This summer, we’re working with four artists to make the holidays exciting, creative and fun.
Heledd Evans
30 July–4 August
Heledd is a sound artist who grew up in Eastbourne. Using combinations of field recordings, deliberate sound and editing, she works with digital and acoustic sounds. Heledd will be responding sonically to Towner during her residency. In Heledd’s workshops on 31 July & 2 August, we will explore the gallery with our ears rather than our eyes.
James William Murray
6–11 August
James is an artist, curator, and educator based in Brighton. He has exhibited internationally and at Towner and runs Niagara Falls Projects, a project space in Brighton. James also works as a visiting lecturer at Sussex Coast College Hastings. At Towner, James will be exploring construction and space in our experimental area. His workshops on 7 & 9 August will look at abstraction, drawing and writing.
Ismini Samanidou
13–25 August
Ismini is a visual artist and designer who lives in Eastbourne, who works with photography, drawing and weaving. She makes work for exhibitions and installations, collaborates with architects and designers on site-specific commissions, works on commercial designs, and teaches weaving and drawing in the UK and internationally.
Kate Whiteman
13–25 August
Kate is a graphic designer based in Eastbourne. She creates designs for charities and not-for- profit organisations. Kate has worked with Towner, including co-designing Fusebox, and her family are keen Towner visitors.
Ismini and Kate will be combining their expertise to fill Towner with colours. Their workshops will look at graphic design and textiles.
