The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum + Intro

Sun 24 Mar | 2.00pm

Young housekeeper Katharina falls for a handsome man at a party – who unbeknownst to her, is a criminal on the run from the police. The night she spends with this alleged terrorist is enough to bring her quiet life into ruins and subject her to police surveillance. Exploited by cheap newspaper sensationalism, Katharina slowly becomes a wider target, with anonymous phone calls and letters, sexual advances and threats all testing the limits of her dignity and sanity.

Maiden

Thu 28 Mar | 4.30pm

Maiden is the inspirational story of how Tracy Edwards, a 24-year-old cook on charter boats, became the skipper of the first ever all-female crew to enter the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1989. Tracy’s dream was opposed on all sides: her male competitors thought an all-women crew would never make it, the chauvinistic yachting press took bets on her failure, and potential sponsors rejected her, fearing they would die at sea and generate bad publicity. But Tracy refused to give up: she remortgaged her home and bought a secondhand boat, putting everything on the line to ensure the team made it to the start line.

Vice

Sat 30 Mar | 1.45pm & 4.30pm

Just how did US politics reach the state it finds itself in? Adam McKay follows his dramatic retelling of the 2008 banking crisis, The Big Short, with another darkly comic yarn drawn from the tangled world of current affairs. Starring an unrecognisable Christian Bale as Dick Cheney, Vice is a pull-no-punches account of how a bureaucratic Washington insider quietly became the most powerful man in the world as Vice President to George W. Bush, reshaping the globe in ways that still resonate today.

All About My Mother

Sun 31 Mar | 2.00pm

Join us this Mother's Day for a one-off screening of Almodóvar's stylish black comedy, still widely believed to be the director's best. A Greek saying states that only women who have washed their eyes with tears can see clearly. This saying does not hold true for Manuela. The night a car ran over her son Esteban, Manuela cried until her eyes ran completely dry. Far from seeing clearly, the present and the future become mixed up in darkness. She begins looking for his father who has become a transvestite.
