Screen Talk: Into the Air – Early Aviation on FilmDr. Frank Gray, Director at Screen Archive South East at the University of Brighton, presents an illustrated lecture on early aviation and the moving image, exploring many different aspects of flight – as a mode of transport, as an expression of adventure and wonder and as a war machine.
Dr. Gray is an early cinema historian with subject interests in Victorian and Edwardian film, early colour film technologies and the rise of amateur film culture in the 1920s and 30s. Based at the University of Brighton, he is the director of Screen Archive South East (the region’s public sector film archive), and co-director of Cinecity – the Brighton Film Festival. He is currently the Chair of Film Archives UK.
