Documentary: No Home Movie

Throughout her career, Chantal Akerman has visited and revisited her relationship with her mother: from 1975’s Jeanne Dielman 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, which she described as a ‘love-film for her mother’, to News From Home, which featured, in voice-over, the letters her mother sent her after she moved to New York.

Fittingly, for her last film, Akerman revisited this relationship to create, filming semi-surreptitiously on a digital camera, an intimate portrait of the last few months of her mother’s life.

“It is an extremely intimate film but also one of great formal precision and beauty, one of the rare works of art that is both personal and universal” – New York Film Festival

Women in Film
In the centenary year of the 1918 suffrage act, celebrating women’s voices has never been more important. With this in mind, we present a season dedicated entirely to women in film. All the films in this season are directed or co-directed by women, and most are female-focused in their narrative.
