In this latest film from Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale, Frances Ha) Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson deliver some of their richest work as a couple whose once enviable marriage crumbles under the weight of mounting resentments and divergent needs.
Nicole (Johansson) is an actor, Charlie (Driver) is a director – together they run a New York theatre company. They’re also married and have a son. But Nicole is a West Coaster who craves a different pace and a healthier life for their family, while Charlie dislikes California. Accepting a temporary separation while Nicole takes a film job in LA, the dissimilarities in their desires become an impossible crossroads.
A deeply intimate portrait of a marriage gradually unravelling, told with raw authenticity and exploring what it really means to break up, while desperately trying to keep it together.
Please note that the screening on Thursday 16 January will be open captioned for accessibility
