IMG_0824_resizedwebWe are delighted to share the news that today we won The Argus’ Going Out 2014 award for Best Museum/Gallery. We would like to thank everyone who voted for us.

This award marks a momentous year for Towner. In July we transferred from Eastbourne Borough Council to become an independent charitable Trust, with David Dimbleby as our Chairman and a fantastic Board of Trustees.

Our summer show Peggy Angus: Designer, Painter, Teacher was hugely popular, and in September we opened a room dedicated to Sussex artist Eric Ravilious. Our contemporary exhibitions continues to grow from strength to strength – who can forget the stunning installation by Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota, whose other-worldly labyrinth filled the whole gallery?

We have worked with more community groups than ever before.  We have also introduced new projects such as ‘Tiny Towner’ for under 5’s and ‘ArtBreak’, ensuring children and young people with disabilities have equal access to all our activities.

Thank you for your continued support to make Eastbourne and the surrounding area a great place to be. And don’t forget to join us this December – check our opening hours on our website for when we’re open.
