Towner Art Gallery Appoints New Head of Exhibitions

Towner Art Gallery is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Cass as the new Head of Exhibitions.
Cass is currently Curator for the Creative Arts at Trinity College Dublin and will be starting his new role at Towner in late September.
Cass will bring over 10 years of experience in contemporary visual arts curation, management and production.
He has commissioned, produced and presented visual arts programs, projects and publications for institutions including Trinity College Dublin, Tate/UK City of Culture, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels, Project Arts Centre, Dublin, the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin, and the Model Gallery, Sligo.
Cass was the Project Manager responsible for leading, managing, designing and delivering the Turner Prize 2013 for Derry/Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013 in partnership with Tate. He is also the Co-Founder and Co-Director of independent film, television and documentary production company Bang Bang Teoranta, which produced three film artworks for Ireland’s exhibition at the 11th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice Biennale 2008, The Lives of Spaces.
As Head of Exhibitions, Cass will be responsible for supporting, developing and promoting excellence in contemporary artistic practice and partnerships, delivering a world class exhibitions programme and cementing Towner as an important regional gallery with national and international significance.
Towner has established a strong reputation as a regional and national art gallery, working with contemporary artists and presenting exhibitions from its permanent collection. Recent shows include Richard Billingham, Ori Gersht, John Virtue, Chiharu Shiota, Fiona Rae, and Kelly Richardson. The gallery is currently exhibiting two exhibitions about the life and work of abstract artist and former Towner curator William Gear, who would have been 100 years old today.
