Lead Artist, Pathways
Closing Date: Monday 18 July 2016
Background: Towner is commissioned by College Central to provide vocational Level 1 and 2 qualifications in Arts and Media (Arts Award Bronze and Silver), for KS4 students who are unable to access mainstream education. College Central provides Personalised Learning provision for students who have been or are at risk of being permanently excluded from schools across East Sussex, in order to achieve positive outcomes and meaningful progression. Towner is one of several providers in East Sussex and is able to support students in the unique setting of a contemporary art gallery.
Role: Towner has delivered ‘Pathways’ for five years. We are now looking to build on this success and forefront the role of a practising artist to enable students re-engage with learning, inspired by our collection and exhibitions programme. The Lead Artist must have several years’ experience working with vulnerable 14-16 year olds, ideally as a part of their own socially engaged practice. It is essential they have experience of successful delivery of Arts Award Bronze and Silver and an understanding of formal education requirements, such as personalised learning plans would be an advantage. We are looking for someone who can enable engagement and progression routes using the gallery as a starting point. We are looking for an artist who has experience in the visual arts, although this may not be their primary medium, who can demonstrate both commitment to developing their own practice and that of young people.
