We are welcoming University of Brighton post-graduate Architecture students, to use our ground floor spaces as their studio. Responding to the idea of ‘Welcome’ in a seaside town, they are making large-scale pieces considering access, audience and interpretation.
We welcome you to observe this making in progress from 22 to 25 January during gallery opening hours. Daily lunchtime talks from 1-2pm will allow deeper questioning of the individual responses. An exhibition of final work will be shown 29 January to 10 February across both studios on the ground floor.
The students are part of the Design Is Research Studio, a design laboratory within the Master of Architecture (MArch) RIBA Part II course at the School of Architecture and Design (SoAD), University of Brighton. The MArch is a highly creative, research-led and professional two-year masters rooted in studio laboratories and driven by individual inquiry. Students working at Towner are led by Charles Holland, Professor at the school of Architecture and Design at the University of Brighton, and supported by sculptor Will Nash.
