This is Eastbourne, This is…

Our 2012 annual schools exhibition explores local and cultural pride.  Towner Collection works depicting Sussex scenes – by artists such as Alfred Wallis – hang beside artwork by pupils from the region.

For this year’s exhibition we have worked with nearly 1000 pupils from 19 schools across Sussex. We asked them to create artwork on the theme: what makes them proud to be from their community, town or culture?

Throughout March and April the pupils visited Towner’s Collection Store to look closely at artworks that depict local urban, countryside and seaside scenes. They then returned to school to create their own artwork in response.

Year 4 and 5 pupils from four schools worked together with artists Rob Walker and Karen Taylor.  Bourne, The Haven, St Thomas a Beckett and Stafford schools used the exhibition theme as an
opportunity to promote diversity and share cultural backgrounds
within Eastbourne, making new friends along the way.

This exhibition has been kindly funded by NADFAS and
East Sussex County Council.
