Film – Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist

Sat 4 Aug | 2.00pm

From the Sex Pistols to eco-activism, Vivienne Westwood is, without a doubt, one of fashion’s most iconic figures. With that mop of shocking orange hair, swearing her way through interviews, Westwood makes for a hugely entertaining subject for Lorna Tucker’s documentary portrait. The film neatly balances the past with the present: archival footage, talking heads and conversations with the woman herself (a reluctant interviewee: “do we have to cover every bit of it, you know?”) accompany footage of the designer at work today, the head of her fashion empire.

Film: I Am Not A Witch

Sat 11 Aug | 2.00pm

Eight-year-old Shula is accused of witchcraft in Rungano Nyoni’s critically-acclaimed debut feature. Faced with the options of accepting her supernatural branding and living a tethered life as a sorceress, or to cutting her ties with local tradition to be transformed into a goat that may be killed and eaten for supper, Shula ends up at the local “witch camp”. What follows is a bewilderingly funny tragi-comic tale that veers into magical surrealism.
