Telling the story of a young man struggling to come out, David is Homosexual was originally made, on a shoestring budget, as an educational film for the Lewisham brand of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality by director Wilfred Avery, back in the late ‘70s.

Treasures from the archive are painstakingly stitched together to create Queerama, an extraordinary documentary depicting the last hundred years of queer experiences in Britain. Pulling together footage from film, TV and newsreels, dreamily soundtracked by Hercules Love Affair, Alison Goldfrapp and John Grant, the resulting experience is both informative and breathtaking.

With an astonishing supporting cast, time and space is warped as director John Maybury inserts young British artists of the moment - Tracey Emin, Sarah Lucas and Gillian Wearing to name a few - into scenes at the Colony Room club, where Bacon famously drank in the ‘60s.
