Tawny Pipit

Dir. Bernard Miles and Charles Saunders, 1944. 81mins

Described as a whimsical comedy, this film charts the rallying together of a small village to protect the nesting site of some rarely spotted birds. Jimmy Bancroft (Niall MacGinnis), a fighter pilot just released from hospital, and his nurse Hazel Broome (Rosamund John) are on a walking tour through the countryside. They arrive at the fictional village of Lipsbury Lea and, being keen birdwatchers, discover that a pair of tawny pipits are nesting nearby. They face many obstacles in their efforts and must enlist the support of the local community to protect the nesting site until the eggs hatch.
