2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in Britain. To celebrate, Towner presents a series of screenings and events to explore the last fifty years of LGBT+ experiences in the UK.
Treasures from the archive are painstakingly stitched together to create Queerama, an extraordinary documentary depicting the last hundred years of queer experiences in Britain. Pulling together footage from film, TV and newsreels, dreamily soundtracked by Hercules Love Affair, Alison Goldfrapp and John Grant, the resulting experience is both informative and breathtaking.
Daisy Asquith, the film’s director, will be introducing this screening, talking about the complexities of working with archive material.
