Film: Mary Shelley
Elle Fanning shines as a young Mary Shelley in this biopic, directed by Haifaa al-Mansour. Caught up in a relationship with the poet Percy Shelley, her first love, Mary elopes with him to stay at the home of Lord Byron by Lake Geneva. There, as the story famously goes, the guests were challenged to write a ghost story, the result was Frankenstein.
The film follows her story from the moment she meets the dashing Percy to finally getting her novel published.

Women in Film
In the centenary year of the 1918 suffrage act, celebrating women’s voices has never been more important. With this in mind, we present a season dedicated entirely to women in film. All the films in this season are directed or co-directed by women, and most are female-focused in their narrative.
