Alternative Viewpoints with Hermione Allsopp
Each month join contemporary thinkers, creative practitioners, experts from beyond the gallery walls and members of our Learning programme for a free exhibition experience with a difference.
This month join artist Hermione Allsopp and explore her playful commission for FuseBox, Towner’s creative open learning space inspired by A Certain Kind of Light. Hermione will be responding to key works in the show and sharing her working process for FuseBox.
Hermione makes sculptural work by collecting objects and furniture and re-creating them into new forms or compositions. These are familiar, known, domestic items that have been discarded in charity or junk shops – not, inert materials, but ones that carry collective attachments, memories and meanings.
The objects Hermione works with are all from an interior domestic space. They are usually displayed or are decorative in some way. Hermione experiments with the constructs of display and the arrangement of objects, often bringing them together with other elements or materials from constructed interior space.
