All About Eve + intro

Two women and a man dressed in 50s clothing sit in a car

Still from All About Eve, directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, 1950

Only eight years after starring in Now, Voyager, Bette Davis plays a highly regarded but ageing Broadway actress, Margo Channing. After introducing herself at Margo’s dressing room one night after a show, aspiring actress Eve Harrington insinuates herself into the star’s life, ultimately threatening her career and personal relationships. All About Eve earned a staggering 14 Academy Award nominations and won six, including Best Picture and remains one of Bette Davis most iconic roles.

This screening is taking place as part of our ongoing season, Screen Classics, in collaboration with the University of Sussex’s School of Media, Film and Music.

Introduced by Dr Niall Richardson, course convenor for the Gender and Media MA.
