Beacon

In March 2006 Eastbourne Borough Council, through Towner, was awarded Beacon status in the theme of Culture and Sport for Hard to Reach groups.  Only eight authorities received the award across the UK, and Eastbourne was the only one to achieve this through the work of a gallery or museum.

Beacon status was granted to those authorities that demonstrated a clear vision, excellent services and a willingness to innovate within a specific theme.
