Central to Towner’s vision is to provide great art for everyone. Our award winning learning and participation programmes are recognised regionally, nationally and internationally as models of best practice.
Whether within the classroom, the gallery, our dedicated workshop spaces or out in the community, our programmes appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds. More than 5000 people take part each year.
Key to our approach is partnership working. Our partners include:
- community groups
- youth projects
- cultural organisations
- health care providers
Each project is delivered by a team of specialist arts practitioners. Projects in the last year alone have involved visual arts, design, film, digital media, performance, graffiti, audio, parkour, photography and printmaking!
Projects are closely linked to our exhibitions programme as well as the unique learning resource that is our collection. Each is tailored to meet the needs of those participating, whether delivering learning or pro social outcomes.
Our commitment to learning and participation is publicly visible, with the results often on display in the gallery itself. To date more than 4000 young people have exhibited their artwork in the new Towner. These displays form an important part of our exhibition programme, and a key facet of our visitor experience.
