Calling all Sussex artists! Last few days to submit work for Sussex Open 2018…
Posted on 24/04/2018
There are just a handful of days left to apply for Towner Art Gallery’s annual Open exhibition. Sussex Open brings together artists from across East and West Sussex and offers a unique opportunity to view works by artists at every level of their career, from new talent to established figures.
This year, for the first time, the exhibition will also feature the winner of The Sussex Open Commission Award, a new funding award sponsored by Eastbourne Arts Circle with the aim of supporting the creation of new artwork. This award is open across a wide range of art forms and the selected proposal will receive an award of up to £1000 to develop their project.
The deadline for submissions for both Sussex Open 2018 and The Sussex Open Commission Award is Monday 30 April.
The works in the final exhibition, which will take place at Towner from 21 July – 30 September 2018, will be selected by a panel made up of painter and printmaker Tom Hammick, Jenny Lund, Curator of Fine Art at the Royal Pavilion & Museums in Brighton & Hove, and Towner’s Head of Exhibitions Brian Cass.
Artists who have previously exhibited work in Towner’s Open exhibition have gone on to be selected for John Moore’s Painting Prize, the Jerwood Drawing Prize, the BFI Film Festival in the experimental film category and have been shortlisted for the Mark Tanner Sculpture Prize.
