Virginia’s Path, 2015- 2016
Virginia’s Path’s is inspired by the diaries of the writer Virginia Woolf while she was living in Monk’s House, Rodmell; her house during the Second World War. Through a combination of text (excerpts from Woolf’s diaries) and photographs the series focuses on Woolf’s more personal recounts of her daily life during the war, in relationship to the surrounding landscape. During this period Woolf took long walks each afternoon across the fields and brooks, she often describes this landscape as a source of calm and beauty even during the escalation of the conflict when Monk’s House became a shelter and prison at the same time.
Annalaura Palma is an Italian artist based in Brighton who works primarily with photography. Her work explores notions of place in relationship to historical figures, literature and mythology.
