John Piper Acquisitions Appeal
An incredible opportunity has arisen for Towner to acquire a pair of works by John Piper (1903-1992) – but we need your help!
Together these works are of exceptional significance – both to our understanding of Piper’s unique contribution to British Art, and to our own collection.
The works are currently on display in our exhibition John Piper in Kent & Sussex. They demonstrate Piper’s love of the Sussex coastline – a love which was nurtured during his visits to Furlongs.
Furlongs was an important 20th century East Sussex artistic community. Piper stayed at Furlongs at the same time as Eric Ravilious (1903-1942),
an artist Towner has become famous for.
The two works will perfectly complement our renowned Ravilious collection, whilst celebrating this unique aspect of 20th century art in the
South Downs.
With your help, we hope to keep these outstanding works in Sussex!
Towner has already raised a total of £75,000 from the V&A, the Art Fund and the Friends of the Towner. We need to raise £10,000 more to secure these
works for the Towner Collection.
Visitors to the exhibition are being asked for a small donation with entry. You can also donate using the envelopes provided throughout the gallery.
