East Sussex Open 2010Towner holds a selected open submission exhibition in April each year, to coincide with the
Eastbourne Festival. Submissions are invited from artists living or working in East Sussex.

Applications have now closed for the East Sussex Open 2012.  More information will appear
here later this year when applications open for the East Sussex Open 2013.

Temporary exhibitions – application procedure

For the most part our curatorial team approach artists to exhibit at Towner.  However, we are interested to receive exhibition proposals from artists.  Please note that as we receive high numbers of enquires from artists, we are unable to meet requests from artists wishing to meet with our curatorial team or Director.  Therefore, we ask that all artists wishing to enquire about exhibiting at Towner submit a proposal for exhibition.

We advise that you visit the gallery before submitting your proposal.  Consider the size and nature of the Exhibitions Gallery, and how your work might fit within it. 

The procedure for submitting a proposal is detailed below.

Please supply: 

  1. A proposal (no longer than 500 words) stating what you would like to exhibit and how you would use the exhibition space to show your work.
  2. Up to 8 digital images of the type of work you wish to exhibit - or if submitting a DVD, no more than 3 clips, each clip no longer than 10 minutes duration.
  3. A short CV (no more than 2 pages) and artistic statement (no longer than 500 words) giving the background and context of your work.
  4. Past exhibition catalogues / publications (only if relevant to the proposal).
  5. A stamped addressed envelope for any materials you wish to have returned.
