Towner, one of the largest, high profile visual arts organisations in the South East, is seeking to appoint a new Director. A gallery of national and international significance, it presents wide-ranging historic, modern and contemporary art alongside works from an acclaimed Collection of almost 5,000 artworks. An Arts Council England (ACE) National Portfolio Organisation (NPO), Towner is supported by Eastbourne Borough Council, generating additional income through fund-raising and commercial activities. It places learning and access at the heart of everything it does, building on the vision of its philanthropic founder to be ‘an art gallery for the people’.
The new Director will be responsible for leading Towner in the next phase of its development as a celebrated and influential centre for the visual arts with reputation and reach which is local, national and international. In the new Director, Towner seeks an inspiring, enthusiastic and experienced individual who can demonstrate both artistic and organisational leadership. A recognised artistic leader with well-developed networks in the UK and internationally, they will bring artistic vision combined with strategic management with previous experience in business planning, development of brand, marketing and audience development a distinct advantage.
